Japanese photographer Hiroji Kubota is by right one of the most well-respected contemporary photographers and has been a mainstay of legendary Magnum Photos agency since the 1970s. His photographic survey of China, where Kubota travelled over a period of seven years, was published as a book in 1985 and is still one of the most comprehensive studies of the different faces of the People’s Republic to date. A selection of his works were presented at the Photo Shanghai 2016 fair.
