FAQ
Are the prints signed? |
If the print is signed, it’s always marked in the work description; it could be signed on either front, back or on a backside label. The print could also contain certain stamps (e.g. estate, photographer’s, studio stamps) or come with an artist certificate of authenticity (signed by the artist) or OstLicht Gallery certificate of authenticity (signed by a Gallery representative). This information is always provided in the work description for each item. Each print also comes with a gallery label containing basic information about the print (e.g. artist, title, date, technique etc.). |
Will my photographs look exactly as they do online? |
As you are viewing an item from an electronic device screen, the colour of your print might slightly differ as all screens are calibrated differently. Computers also affect the level of brightness of an image. |
What measurements are given? |
Measurements are given height preceding width, in centimeters and their accuracy is circa 1 cm. Unless otherwise indicated dimensions given are those of the actual image size (excluding any margins). If the work comes with a frame or a passepartout – its size is also mentioned in the description. Sometimes we are not able to measure an exact image size because of the frame; in this case an approximate image size will be indicated. |
What does the term »vintage« mean? |
A vintage print is one made at roughly the same time as the negative by the photographer himself or by a person or procedure satisfactory to the photographer. Specific dates of positive prints are rarely known. The distinction between a vintage print and a print done considerably later would be expressed with the date referring to the production of the negative in the description (e.g. printed later or printed in the 1970s). The approximate date, year, or decade of a positive print is given when possible, based on OstLicht experts’ knowledge of the history of the photograph, its provenance and our visual assessment of the photograph’s physical characteristics. We don’t guarantee the printing date of the photograph. |
Are the prints framed? |
Most of the prints we offer are unframed, unless a frame and/or a passepartout is mentioned in the work description. If the print is described as a framed one, it commonly means that it comes framed directly from the artist or at least that the frame is sealed; in that case we don’t offer an option of unframing the work to send only a lose print. Some of the works are offered both with and without a frame – please select a preferred option while placing your order. |
Can I order a frame additionally to the print? |
We will gladly advise you on suitable framing solutions for the print you would like to purchase, but as it will effect the production time and the shipping costs, to get the final details of the order please send us your request to shop@ostlicht.org. |
What is the print condition? |
Generally all the prints that we offer are in perfect or good condition unless otherwise is mentioned in the description. Please note that many items in our online shop are vintage or historical prints and books and certain traces of aging are part of their condition. Please also note that the digital images of the lot may not accurately reflect the actual condition of the print or book. If you would like to get a detailed condition report of a certain print or book, contact us at shop@ostlicht.org. |
What is included in the price listed for the print? |
Prices listed are in Euro and include only the print or the book, depending on the item. The print price may already include passepartout or frame if it’s mentioned in the print description. The book price may include a print if it’s a part of the book edition and mentioned in the description. If you would like to order a frame or/and a passepartout additionally to the print contact us at shipping@ostlicht.org for price and production time estimation as well as possible shipping costs. |
