UTOPIA

René Burri, born in 1933 in Zurich, is one of the most internationally important reporters of our time. His portrait of the cigar-smoking Cuban revolutionary Che Guevarra went on to become a global icon. His picture series of Picasso and Le Corbusier are as familiar to a wider public as his shots of new architecture in the metropolises of Latin America. The exhibition UTOPIA conceived by Hans-Michael Koetzle in close cooperation with René Burri and Magnum Photos brings together Burri’s most important architectural photos for the first time and shows his interest in architecture – above all in its social and cultural context. UTOPIA illustrates Burri’s engagement with the most important architectural phenomena from the Fifties to the Seventies connected with Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer, Richard Meier und Luis Barragán.
