PHOTO SIMONIS
08.06.–31.07.2010
In cooperation with the picture archive of the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek (Austrian National Library), WestLicht is showing the exhibition Photo Simonis.
Photo Simonis was one of the most popular portrait studios of the last decades of the 20th century in Vienna and is seen as the most important portrait studio of the post-war period. Austrian presidents since Karl Renner, known figures from economic and scientific backgrounds, as well as dignitaries of the church had their picture taken in Währingerstraße 12. The great success of the studio was a direct result of the excellent technical execution and design of the images taken there. In 1950 Photo Simonis was the first Viennese portrait studio to start using colour photography. The photographic archive of Photo Simonis provides an overview over 80 years of portrait as well as advertising photography.
The exhibition at WestLicht in June will be the first to ever show an extensive overview of this historic estate.
