Once again we are proud to present 200 lots of high international renown for our 4th bi-annual Photographica Auction at WestLicht.
Works by great photographers, such as Richard Avedon, Werner Bischof, Henri-Cartier Bresson, Lucien Clergue, Edward Sheriff Curtis, Robert Doisneau, Elliott Erwitt, Philippe Halsman, Horst P. Horst, Osvaldo Salas, August Sander, Jan Saudek, Cindy Sherman, Bert Stern and Josef Sudek can be found. A special highlight is a portrait of Egon Schiele by Anton Josef Trčka (1893-1940). The auction has a special focus on Austrian photo art, featuring images by Trude Fleischmann, Franz Hubmann, Rudolf Koppitz, Heinrich Kühn, Inge Morath, Lothar Rübelt and Ferdinand Schmutzer. Our auction range also includes contemporary art by Kerstin Cmelka, Sonja Gangl, Nicolas Jasmin, Ulrike Lienbacher, Roberta Lima, Agnes Prammer, Corinne L. Rusch, Nina Rike Springer and Manfred Willmann. Our independent team of experts is ensuring the legitimate evaluation of all photographs in this auction.
The camera auction starts on Saturday 28th of May at 10a.m. CET (=01:00 PST) and will include a great selection of rarities from all periods of photography. Next to Leica items as 0-series no.107, MP2 with motor, M2 grey, M9 Titanium prototype, important NASA cameras. We like to inform that we auction the first part of the Zeiss collection from Charles M. Barringer Jr., our dear friend who passed away last year. Charlie has put together a remarkable Zeiss collection of 2600 items. The family follows his instructions regarding the disposition of the collection and we would like to thank his wife Thérèse for her faith. Charlie was co-founder and president of the Zeiss Historica Society. Amongst many interesting pieces, we like to point-out the famous Contax gunstock from 1936 and the fastest lens ever produced, the unbelievable 40mm F/0.33 Super-Q-Gigantar by Carl Zeiss.
It is also an honour for us to auction some rare Nikon items which we received from Nikon Europe Headquarter. The auction proceeds will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross, in order to help the people suffering from the earthquake. The Nikon section’s highlight is the most early Nikon I camera existing, but also the famous Stereo-Nikkor for rangefinder cameras, the very first and rare 2000mm mirror lens and one of only 3 existing underwater housings for Nikon rangefinder should attract interest.
