The World on view at WestLicht: From 6 September the World Press Photo exhibition brings the best creations in the field of photojournalism to Vienna's Westbahnstraße.
As World Press Photo of the Year the jury selected an image by US-American photographer John Moore, which had become a symbol for the restrictive immigration policy of the USA under the Trump administration.
It is the eighteenth time in a row that WestLicht hosts the World Press Photo exhibition. In 2018 nearly 35.000 visitors came to see the show in Vienna, a new visitors record for WestLicht. As icons of the recent past, the awarded single images and photo series form a unique retrospective of last year’s events, covering topics from the areas of politics, society, sports and nature.

»Time and again, the World Press Photo Award demonstrates what high quality photojournalism can achieve and the risk photographers are taking on a regular basis in order to let us know, what is going on in the world. In times of constant attacks on the institution of the free press, this is something that cannot be overemphasized. This is why World Press Photo exhibition is of such great importance to us.«
