Sensational result at the WestLicht camera & photo auction
A great sales quota of 86% and results far above the estimated value: Rarities from Leica and Nikon proved their unbroken high attractiveness for collectors at the 28th WestLicht camera auction last weekend. In exciting intercontinental bidding battles, many items were sold at prices far above the starting prices. A total bid price of 916,860 Euros for the 573 items was finally matched by a selling price of 1,968,600 Euros. This means an increase of 115 percent.
For example, a Leica M3 from 1959 rose from 14,000 to an astonishing 40,800 euros, or the MP Gold 60 Years PRC from 15,000 to 48,000 euros. The highlight of the auction came from Nikon: for 156,000 euros, a collector secured the famous Fisheye Nikkor, of which only three were produced (starting price: 20,000 euros).
The 13th WestLicht photo auction on Friday evening was also extremely successful.
The photograph Egon Schiele in front of a large mirror in his studio by Johannes Fischer from 1915 (starting price 3,000 euros) achieved 33,600 euros. A Schiele portrait sold for 15,000 euros (starting price 2,800 euros). Ludwig Grillich's painting of the 8-year-old Egon Schiele, which came from the estate of his brother-in-law Anton Peschka, was worth 6,600 euros to a collector (starting price: 2,400 euros).
One of the highlights was a work by Nobuyoshi Araki, Untitled from 'Colourscapes', 1991, which changed hands for 32,400 euros (starting price: 14,000 euros). Interest in the nudes by Alfons Walde is constantly growing - all three vintage prints offered clearly exceeded the upper estimate. And the many models and celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn and Kate Moss also did brilliantly on the auction catwalk. All prices include premium.
