It was in 1940 when the brown paper bag of records started being used for visuals. The record cover became the place where the work of photographers, graphic designers and artist merged. The Beatles also made use of the famous square of a long playing record that became an object of popular culture. Who were the people in the background creating those covers? How was photography and graphic design used for the music? In his lecture, Arne Reimer will present samples of record covers that became iconic in music history.
Arne Reimer photographed and wrote two books on American Jazz Heroes that won him the German JAZZ ECHO award in 2017. That same year, he published his book Long Play on record stores including portraits as well. Reimer also worked for record labels like ECM, Enja and ACT and is publishing his portraits in Jazzthing and writes for Mint.
